Desi ii ofera o siguranta financiara, ancheta are pretul ei: cu cat Strike patrunde mai adanc in lumea complexa a tinerei fete, cu atat lucrurile devin mai sumbre si pericolele nu intarzie sa apara.

Same reason Stephen King has an alias. Something about the fame makes people wonder if audiences actually like their work or are just buying it because of who they are. I thought there was a love interest of Strike's mentioned before Charlotte.
Does anyone else recall that? If so, who is she and where is she mentioned? My book club doesn't believe me. Anna Mmm that's not quite right; Strike meets Charlotte when he is 19 and at college. The reference to Tracey is from a photo at Lucy's 30th birthday when Tracey was 'a fellow SIB officer', and 'he had been in possession of two legs'.
Lucy had hoped her brother would marry Tracey, but Tracey had married a mutual friend and had a daughter. Ch9 p It sounds like they were dating in one of the many off moments with Charlotte. Ch2 p kindle edition less. I seem to have missed the reason for the title. Anyone get it? The cuckoo hatchling becomes a "brood parasite"; it usually hatches before other eggs and the cuckoo chick quickly outgrows its nest "siblings".
It outfights them for the adopted parent bird's attention and food and will push its adopted siblings out of the nest to die. Eventually it has the sole attention of the parent bird, who devotes all their focus and energy in nurturing it.
It always disturbed me when I was a child and came across a photo in my library encyclopaedia of this darkly feathered, large ugly hatchling, with its yellow beak wide open, being fed by a parent bird smaller than itself. In the meantime it was pushing its much smaller and featherless sibling halfway out of the crowded nest.
That disturbing image is still imprinted in my memory. Essentially, John is the ugly parasitic cuckoo, vying for the attention and love of his adopted parents and pushing his rival siblings out of the nest to die. So if the will in which Lula left everything to her biological brother would ever be found he would not get it as he would be in jail.
John knew about the will written on blue paper but could not find it, he was probably worried it could appear somewhere it was stuck in Lula's bag in their mother's closet and Strike found it. And, I do believe that had she not eventually revealed her true identity that it would not have received the accolades that it did. Load 5 more questions.
Unanswered Questions Very surprising and unexpected ending. I do not read mysteries a lot but I did not see that coming. It was a very interesting and brilliantly crafted solution. Why do you think Strike is so passionate about investigation and being a detective? Was The Cuckoo's Calling really about male violence? What's a good place to skip to in this book?
I'm kind of bored and not even half way done with it. I want to skip somewhere but still retain an idea of what's going on so I can understand the ending.
