These values are used to determine the size of structural members, the quantity of reinforcements, and to compute the stress for observed strains.

Place the specimen in the fixture by centering it between the grip interfaces. Make sure that the entire grip length contacts the grip faces when the fixture is closed. Attach the required strain gauges or extensometers to the mid-span, mid-width location of the specimen. In order to determine the modulus of elasticity, longitudinal strain should be measured. Apply the load at a constant rate until failure.

Record load versus displacement and load versus strain, if extensometers are used. If the specimen breaks, record the maximum force and strain.
