Verified Purchase. It's a BIG book. This part of the war in NWE is not normally my area of interest, but the book is still worth a look. The picture quality is mostly very good. Until this book, there wasn't much available that I know of other than the 2 Concord books. Pictures are very small in those books, so yeah, it was a good purchase I think.. Outstanding in every way! Buy it, buy it, buy it!

Once this one is out of print, it is virtually guaranteed to go through the roof monetarily on the secondary market. It's huge, it's heavy, it's printed on outstanding quality paper, it would be hard to make this book much better. Each photo is documented as to when it was taken and by whom, and it's laid out in day-by-day order to bring you through the battle of Arnheim. While so many books focus on Hohenstauffen and their role in the battle, this book graphically shows what an extremely diverse and downright motley assortment of troops were scrapped together to oppose Market Garden.

I had no idea there were actually Kriegsmarine soldiers actively participating in the battle until this book - honestly, when's the last time you saw great detailed photos of Kriegsmarine sailors outfitted with helmets and combat gear engaged in house-to-house fighting?

There are great photos of Stug III's, some nice pics of Panthers, and loads of fascinating detail shots of the soldiers themselves. Some of the photos show graphically what poor condition the German armor was in, and those pics are fascinating. Yes, there are some British prisoner photos, but not a disproportionate amount of them, and these photos themselves are fascinating because it shows the downright seemingly casual atmosphere that looked to exist between the German soldiers and the British airborne troops - they're sharing cigarettes, smoking pipes, chatting, British troops are walking around casually unescorted mixed in with SS troopers almost like they were part of the group!

The movies just don't portray things that way. Great photos, great book, can't recommend it highly enough. The photos were all taken by KB who were assigned to combat units during the battle, so you actually get a very strong sense of what it was like to be there, on the streets, day-by-day, as the battle unfolded.

This is a rare perspective indeed and it's concept was simply brilliant. Sorry to ramble, but this book impressed me. Again, buy it before they're out of print, you will not regret this one!

It's like you're there and the photos could have been taken yesterday. They are big, the book is big and worth every cent.

The captions are as essentials as the photos to explain what is going on and it goes all the way to even give you the name and rank of the captured paras. It tells you who the German war correspondents are kriegsberichter, KB which took the photos - there are 8 of the KB's The book starts with an introduction and synopsis of the battle and is divided in eight chapters from September 19 to September Do yourself a favor and buy this book.

Bold super clear and detailed pictures of German and British solders in battle late in WW2. Photos taken by German photographers show various views of on and behind the front during this airborne landing in Paints a clear picture of what each side wore, how it was worn and how it was used. Large book. Well worth the price. Pictures are in many other books but these are crisps and digitally enhanced , awesome in every way 5 stars. Go to Amazon. Back to top. Get to Know Us.
