Rodrigo's music is among the most popular music of the 20th century. Rodrigo was born in Sagunto Valencia , and completely lost his sight at the age of three after contracting diphtheria. Although distinguished by having raised the Spanish guitar to dignity as a universal concert instrument and best known for his guitar music, he never mastered the instrument himself. He wrote his compositions in Braille , and they were transcribed for publication. His first published compositions  date from His most famous work, Concierto de Aranjuez , was composed in in Paris for the guitarist Regino Sainz de la Maza.

He studied for some years in Paris with composers including Paul Dukas, and traces of French music often appear in his works. Despite being blind from age three, he had a prolific output in multiple genres, with his most famous work being the Concierto de Aranjuez.
The outer sections of the piece are a vigorous dance colored by surprising, even witty, chromatic shifts.
