The Baraza Chair, which is responsible for promoting African Theology, found it necessary to honour Eboussi who, in his lifetime, inspired many African and Western theologians and philosophers through his many writings.
It emerges that the African is a historical subject whose history aspires for auto-determination. Seen as such, the African has a role in promoting a new departure for the continent. In this context, one may consider the thoughts of Eboussi as a call for an African Council of the Catholic Church. The Church of Africa is invited to self-determination, that is, to think and find solutions internally to the various problems that arise.
